About our Newton concrete contractor crew

From new construction to Newton driveways
I learned concrete on new construction, pouring foundations and slabs on lots where nobody lived yet. That's where I saw what really holds a slab up, which is the packed base under it more than the finish on top. A while back I moved over to homes where families are living, and in 2017 I started Excel Newton Concrete to keep doing that work.
Now homeowners call us for driveways, patios, steps and foundation work, and property owners call us for lots and cutting. Around Newton, almost every job sits next to a house someone comes home to that night, with a car to park and a lawn or garden right beside the work. So I explain the job in plain words before I price it, because a homeowner who knows why the base gets dug out and packed can spot a shortcut in any quote. You can see everything we pour on our home page.
How we work on your driveway or patio
Here's what working with us looks like from your side of the job, from the first look at your yard to the permit and inspections the city may need.
You talk with the person who plans the job
I come out to look at your yard myself, so the person you ask about drainage or a sinking slab is the one who plans the work. My crew does the pour with me on site, and you don't get handed off to a salesperson.
An estimate you can line up against others
Your written estimate lists the mix, the prep and the cleanup, so you can compare it with other quotes item by item. Look hardest at the prep line, because the base is the first thing a low quote cuts and you can't see it once the concrete is down.
We handle the permit when your job needs one
When a job needs a permit, we pull it in our name and set up the inspections with the city's Inspectional Services Department, which issues permits for building and altering structures in Newton. If we aren't sure about yours, we check with that office before we start.
Licensing and insurance for concrete work
- Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration
- The state requires contractors who bid on or do work on an existing, owner-occupied home of one to four units to be registered as a Home Improvement Contractor. The registration number has to appear on the permit, the contract and the contractor's ads, so you can find it on those papers before work starts.
- Licensed, insured and in writing
- We're fully licensed and insured. For work estimated at $1,000 or more, state law requires a written contract between you and the contractor that includes certain terms, so you'll have the job spelled out on paper before we pour.
